Consulting for Technology Development

IAS Machine Design specializes in advanced concepts for Product Development and Technology Development (ie. patents).  We provide mechanical engineering expertise for companies that are working on state-of-the-art designs.

We specialize in complex areas of expertise, such as:

-Generating new concepts for patents & product development

-Design/analysis of seals & elastomers with extreme deformation (ie. hyper-elastic flow, non-linear)

-Design of non-linear composites (ie. matrix laminates, reinforced elastomers, fiber reinforced materials)

-Analysis of statically indeterminate structures such as cycloids and compound lattices (hexagon, rhomboid)

-Analysis of highly precise structures such as stents (ie. biomed applications)

-Analysis of crack propagation in plastics, composites, and 3D printing

-Analysis of delamination of multi-layered materials that stretch (ie. biomed applications)

-Controlling deformation of metals in forging and extruding processes (ie. hyper-plastic flow)

-Evaluating heat flow in time-sensitive multi-stage operations, including forgings & castings

-Developing new mechanisms for extreme environments & high reliability

-Developing ultra-compact assemblies for extreme load (ie. controlled local plasticity, arc-stabilization)

-Design for Manufacturing when using exotic materials (ie. hastelloy, fiberglass, composites, etc)

-Welding considerations for special environments including sour-service (ie. pipelines/pressure vessels)

We can use the most advanced FEA software and specialized elements to do what can't be done with traditional FEA engines.

How We Work

Phase 1: Technical Assessment

  • Analysis of your current design - Is it theoretically sound or does it have a theoretical error (useful for prototypes that don't work)
  • Root cause identification of performance gaps (for prototypes that do work)
  • Preliminary calculations, recommendations, and feasibility of where we can close the performance gap, and by how much
  • Suggestions for modification of equipment or design
  • Roadmap of suggested changes and impact, along with timeline estimates
  • Professional technical report (5-10 pages)
  • Timeline: 2-4 days

ROI

Prevents $30K-$120K in wasted development costs.

Provides investor-ready documentation worth 2-3x the cost in funding discussions.

              Cost:

$5K USD for optimization & enhancement

             $8K USD for strategic redesign

Phase 2: Functional Concept

  • Preliminary design for a new concept that allows you to meet performance specs
  • Analysis of the implications of the design and future limitations (this is critical)
  • A concept you can work around and continue core product development
  • Preliminary calculations, preliminary FEA, and 3D models to justify the new concept
  • Performance modeling and predictions
  • Outline of the manufacturing method, tooling, and costs
  • Impact assessment, risk analysis, and mitigation strategies
  • Implementation roadmap
  • Professional documentation package
  • Executive summary for board discussions
  • Timeline: 2-3 weeks of engineering time, plus multiple stakeholder reviews

IMPORTANT: No IP rights transferred in Phase 2, this a go/no-go gate to make costs manageable

ROI

Compresses 3-6 months of trial-and-error into 2-3 weeks, preserving $50K-$150K in runway.

Provides investor-ready proof of concept that supports funding discussions.

Successful outcome creates a concept that is marketable for bridge funding

Cost: TBD, acts as a go/no-go to phase 3

Phase 3: Working Product

  • Complete production-ready design that can be implemented into your equipment
  • Detailed calculations, 3D models, and manufacturing drawings
  • Detailed analysis using high-end FEA software (Abaqus / MSC Marc / Ansys)
  • 2 rounds of modifications to the initial prototype (unfortunately, in R&D, the devil is in the details)
  • Professional technical documentation (20-30 pages)
  • Investor presentation materials
  • Executive summary for board discussions
  • Knowledge transfer to your team
  • 30-day post-delivery support
  • Timeline: 6-10 weeks for engineering, plus manufacturing & testing

ROI

Successful outcome enables $2-5M funding rounds.

Successful outcome enables a path to market and generating revenue

Alternative is hiring full-time senior engineer

($150K/year + benefits, 2+ months to find a specialist, 2 months to ramp up = $75K plus 4 months of lost time plus wages).

10-50x return on investment.

Cost: estimated around $100K USD, depends on complexity

Ongoing Partnership (on retainer):

  • Priority response time (12-48 hours)
  • Approx. 40 hours of consultation per month
  • Monthly technical reviews
  • Ongoing optimization recommendations
  • Professional documentation updates
  • Ad-hoc consultation as needed

TERMS & Conditions: IAS Machine Design provides design/analysis expertise. Due to the uncertain nature of R&D, we cannot and do not guarantee outcomes, nor can we be certain if the desired solution is possible to achieve. Engineering services are available (ie. stamping of drawings), and can be provided on a per-project basis if the customer requests it. Drawings can NOT be stamped without a full program of validation, testing, and commissioning. For engineering services, we must obtain licensing from the appropriate government body in your particular jurisdiction. Licensing is not transferrable across jurisdictions. Extended liability insurance can be obtained when requested.
